Manager, Communications - People Team

Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Communication Manager to join our team and lead all internal team member communications and engagement initiatives. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring effective and consistent communication throughout the organization and within each market and department to drive greater measurable team member engagement and greater retention of top talent.  The manager will partner with our leadership teams and our People Business Partner team to align on team member engagement strategies, talent programs, and overall approach.

Internal Communication Strategy

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive internal communication strategy that aligns with the organization’s vision, mission and values.
  • Create and execute communication plans to inform team members regarding company direction, key initiatives, and critical policy updates.
  • Develop and implement recognition programs that celebrate team member’s contributions and achievements.
  • Partner with each market and department to understand their communication needs and tailor messaging accordingly.
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely communication of market and department level initiatives.
  • Provide guidance and support to ensure consistent and effective communication practices across the organization.
  • Collaborate with various departments to gather data and information, success stories, and updates for communication purposes.
  • Develop crisis communication plans and protocols to ensure a swift and transparent flow of information during challenging situations.
  • Work closely with leadership to address potential issues and maintain team member confidence during times of uncertainty.

Team Member Engagement

  • Lead and drive initiatives that measurably improve team member engagement and retention.
  • Foster a sense of belonging and engagement among team members through strategic communication initiatives.
  • Organize and coordinate team-building activities, events, and programs to strengthen relationships within the organization, better connecting our team members to our vision, mission and values.
  • Establish feedback mechanisms to gauge the effectiveness of internal communications through measurable data points, and make continuous improvements.
  • Actively seek input from leadership teams and team members to address concerns and enhance communication processes.
  • Act as a key member of the People Leadership Team, contributing to strategic discussions and decision-making on our People and Talent Strategy.

Content Creation and Distribution

  • Manage and own the organization’s intranet platform, ensuring it serves as a central hub for cultural engagement, company, market and department level information and resources, and tools for effective performance.
  • Regularly update and optimize intranet content to ensure relevance and accessibility.
  • Generate compelling content for various internal communication channels, including, intranet, emails, other internal platforms, LinkedIn and other external outlets.
  • Ensure timely and effective distribution of important information to all relevant stakeholders.
  • Stay in touch with cutting edge communication technologies and tools, implementing innovative solutions to streamline and better scale internal communication processes.
  • Leverage digital platforms for efficient and engaging communication with team members.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Public Relations, or a related field; Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in employee engagement, communications, and/or talent programs.
  • Proven experience in a similar role, demonstrating successful development and execution of internal communication strategies in a highly dispersed, multi-site, multi-state environment.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • 3 years’ experience with Intranet technology including implementation and systems administration.
  • Familiarity with communication technologies and tools.
  • Crisis communication experience is highly desirable.
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
