ABOUT THE ROLE

Torch is looking for a Lead Software Engineer to support our mission of empowering individuals and organizations through enhanced digital experiences. This role will focus on developing and leading our frontend React-based web applications to create engaging and effective user interfaces.

The Lead Software Engineer will have a deep understanding of frontend technologies, particularly React, and modern design patterns essential for creating scalable, responsive, and visually compelling web applications. They will be well-versed in the nuances of web performance, accessibility, and cross-browser compatibility, ensuring that our applications not only meet but also exceed the highest standards of user experience. Additionally, some backend experience with Ruby or Python is expected.

This role requires a leader who can inspire and mentor a team of talented engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, precision, and collaboration. The ideal candidate will bring both technical expertise and strategic insight, driving the team to deliver results that align with Torch’s overarching goals of growth and customer satisfaction.

YOUR POSITION

Collaborate with product teams to design and build creative solutions, enabling personal growth for our clients while empowering our coaches.
Lead and mentor a team of engineers by establishing and maintaining high technical and professional standards.
Help to create scalable, high-performance web applications consumable on various device form factors.
Uphold high standards in code quality and system reliability through peer code reviews and advocating for best practices in software development.
Consistently ship high-quality features and improvements.

YOUR EXPERIENCE – BASIC REQUIREMENTS

A degree in Computer Science, a related STEM field, or equivalent practical knowledge.
Expertise in JavaScript (React) and TypeScript.
Experience leading teams in delivering multiple highly impactful projects.
Comprehensive understanding of various testing methodologies, ensuring thorough coverage and high-quality user experiences.
Commitment to delivering pixel-perfect UI and upholding accessibility standards.
Skilled in building and utilizing RESTful and GraphQL web services.
Background in developing and sustaining design systems and design libraries.
Understanding of distributed application design patterns and asynchronous programming models.
Working familiarity with Python or Ruby, providing a holistic approach to web development.
Familiar with both relational and non-relational databases.
Proficiency with Git and cloud technologies, preferably AWS.

YOUR EXPERIENCE – NICE TO HAVES

Setting up and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
Devising and executing build and deployment strategies.
Optimizing web applications for speed and efficiency.
Knowledge of security best practices and adherence to data protection regulations.
Advanced understanding of accessibility standards.
